Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has announced jobs in sports quota for the Govindas joining Dahi Handi. Shinde has targeted Uddhav Thackeray on the pretext of Dahi Handi.

These included famed ones like ISKCON temples at Juhu and Chowpatty, the Shri Krishna Pranami Temple at Kalbadevi, the Guruvayoor ShreeAKrishna Temple in Navi Mumbai, and many other smaller little known places of worship dedicated to Lord Krishna.

Uddhav Thackeray on Monday spoke to organisers of the upcoming Dahi Handi festival. Maha CM told them to set an example by setting aside celebration of festivals for some time to banish COVID completely. Uddhav said the health of citizens should be given priority during a pandemic.

Mandals across Mumbai and Maharashtra opted for low-key celebration unlike past years which provided for public spectacles by ebullient Govinda squads. Considering the crisis situation and the brave fight put up by COVID-19 warriors, various mandals instead undertook health and social welfare initiatives, including blood donation camps.

Krishna Janmashtami is followed by Nandotsav which hails the festive occasion of the times when Nanda Baba distributed gifts and sweets in the neighbourhood upon the birth of child Krishna.

Temples are lit, beautifully adorned with fresh flowers etc among various other things.
