Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking judicial inquiry and CBI investigation of the incident that killed 43 people in a massive fire at Delhi's Anaj Mandi on Sunday.
The plea filed in Delhi HC by Advocate Awadh Kaushik said that the government and concerned authorities must frame strict guidelines in order to avoid Delhi Anaj Mandi fire like incidents in future.
The Commission issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, Commissioner of Police, Delhi and the Commissioner, North Delhi Municipal Corporation, calling for a detailed report in the matter within six weeks along with action taken against the errant officials along with relief and rehabilitation provided to the next of kin of the deceased and the injured persons.
Delhi's Tiz Hazari court on Monday sent factory owner Rehan and manager Furkan to 14-day police custody for interrogation in the fire incident at Anaj Mandi which claimed the lives of 43 people.
The villagers say that according to their relatives living in Delhi, more than eight people have died in this accident so far and many are still missing.
Delhi government said in an official statement that the MoHUA has released a shocking and false statement on the Anaj Mandi fire, which claimed the lives of 43 people on Sunday, to hide the corruption and inefficiency of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
As many as 43 people died and 16 others sustained injuries after a fire broke out in the factory on Rani Jhansi Road in the early hours on Sunday. The Delhi Police has arrested Rehan the owner of the building, in which the fire broke out.
A case has been registered under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code against him.
