In view of an unprecedented rise in the coronavirus cases in the national capital, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has written a letter to the Centre calling for ramping up testing for COVID-19 in Delhi containment zones and hospitals by use of rapid antigen detection test.

With the addition of five new areas to the list of containment zones in Delhi, the total number of containment zones in the national capital has risen to 163 on Thursday. As per the list, South-West and North districts have the highest number of containment zones — 31 each. So far, at least 59 zones have been de-contained.

A Delhi government official said that while non-essential shops have been allowed to open, no activity will take place in any containment zones in the state.

The new containment zones are spread in the west and north-east districts of Delhi.

The Delhi government on Friday (April 17) identified 8 new coronavirus COVID-19 containment zones, taking the total tally of the red zones in the national capital to 68.
