Starting June 1, 2024, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced new regulations aimed at simplifying the process of obtaining a driving licence.
Between April 2023 and January 2024, a total of 750 driving licences were suspended in Pune.

It is advised that the validity of the documents that have expired since February 1, the same may be treated to be valid till June 30, 2021, the ministry said in an advisory to states.
Enforcement authorities are advised to treat such documents valid till June 30, 2021, the MoRTH said adding that "this will help out citizens in availing transport-related services".
Stating that this may be the last advisory in this regard, the ministry has asked the states to implement this advisory in letter and spirit, so that citizens are not harassed or face difficulties.
This is aimed at preventing the forgery of documents of absconding drivers in a road accident. With this, police can easily track the accused and get complete information about the driver.
Currently, the ministry has started providing 18 services related to driving license and RCs online such as renewal of DL, learner's license and change of address in DL.
Now you will not have to face much trouble or spend long waiting hours to get a driving license. Several states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand have made the process of getting a driving license easier. Learning licenses can be made in these states in a very short span of time. In view of the increasing rush of driving licenses in Delhi, four more RTOs are being considered for opening.
