Dronacharya Award News

Sports Ministry`s Selection Committee on Monday recommended 13 names for Dronacharya Award and 15 names for Dhyan Chand Award. Jude Felix, Romesh Pathania, Jaspal Rana, and Kuldeep Handoo are among the 13 names recommended for the Dronacharya Award this year. Selection Committee members include eminent names like Virender Sehwag, Sardar Singh , Monalisa Baruah Mehta , Deepa Malik among others.

Dronacharya Awards were given to Subedar  Chenanda Achaiah  Kuttappa, Vijay Sharma, A. Srinivasa Rao, Sukhdev  Singh  Pannu, Clarence Lobo, Tarak Sinha, Jiwan Kumar Sharma and VR Beedu.

Dravid has been nominated for successfully guiding the India U-19 team to World Cup title early this year. Under his guidance, the Colts batch of 2016 played the finals. He has worked with India A team also and is the bridge between international and junior cricket.

Dhyan Chand is arguably the greatest sportsperson that India has ever produced. It is not surprising that the Government decided to celebrate his birthday as the National Sports Day of the country.

Heera Nand Kataria was recommended by a committee headed by former shuttler Pullela Gopichand. The recommendations were also approved by Sports Minister Vijay Goel.

Both these awards may not be the glamour awards like the Khel Ratna and the Arjuna Award but their importance cannot be underestimated.
