In view of rising production of the dry fuel, India plans to completely stop thermal coal imports in 2-3 years that would result in annual savings of Rs 40,000 crore, Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said.

These SPVs would be mainly for constructing additional lines, sidings for evacuating coal from the CIL mines in Odisha, the state-run miner said in a filing to the BSE.

At present, CIL operates 17 coal washeries with a total capacity of 39.4 million tonnes per year.
