The much-awaited festival of Dussehra is finally here and during this time of pandemic, people are choosing to stay at home and celebrate the festival. Also known as Vijaya Dashami, the festival is celebrated after the nine-day long Navratri.

Vijayadashmi or Dussehra marks the victory of truth over evil. It is celebrated on the 10th day of Sharad Navratri and marks the end of Durga puja. 

This year, a 70-feet eco-friendly effigy of Ravana, as against the usual 100-feel tall, has been prepared to go up in flames this evening. 

The Chief Minister, who is also the head of the Goraksh Peeth in Gorakhpur, said that in Indian culture, the role of a 'mother' is revered and the 'Kanya Pujan' symbolized the power.

 Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) supremo Mohan Bhagwat in his customary Vijayadashami speech, listed out various noteworthy incidents that took place in the last one year. The RSS chief spoke on issues like anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests, India-China border conflict at Ladakh, Article 370 among others issues. 

As per Hindu belief, two important events took place on Dussehra - Goddess Durga killed the demon king Mahishasura and Lord Ram defeated Raavana showing the victory of truth over evil.
