The partners on Saturday flagged off a fleet of 150 e-rickshaws from Escorts Mujesar Metro station. 

India adds 750,000 rickshaws to its roads each year. Rickshaws consume 34 million barrels of fuel and emit 12 million tonnes of CO2 annually. Solar-powered e-rickshaws promise to bring down running cost and halt damage to the environment.

As per a rough estimate, Non-Motorised Vehicle lanes are currently spread over 30 km of roads, but most of which are either used for parking or encroached by locals.

The Prime Minister will arrive at the Babatpur airport from New Delhi by a special aircraft. 

The bench said e-rickshaws owners should be asked to go for third-party insurance cover to enable accident victims claim compensation in case of any mishap.

After flagging off the Mahamana Superfast Express which will run from Varanasi to New Delhi, PM Modi on Friday arrived in Lucknow where he addressed the convocation ceremony of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University. PM Modi will also address Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Mahasabha in Lucknow later today. In Varanasi, he attended the distribution of e-rickshaws to differently-abled people and interacted with some of them.

PM Narendra Modi will distribute aids to over nine thousand differently-abled people on Friday in Varanasi, which also happens to be his constituency.

Haryana government is mulling replacing pedal rickshaws with e-rickshaws in the state, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said, as he called for putting an end to the "inhuman" practice of "pulling the weight of other".
