Indian-American economist Abhijit Banerjee, after learning that he had been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics said that he went back to bed after receiving news of his spectacular achievement.
Abhijit Banerjee, French Esther Duflo and American Michael Kremer were on Monday named as the joint winner of 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics for their experiment-based approach to tackling poverty in the fast-growing area of development economics.
UK-born Oliver Hart and Finland-born Bengt Holmstrom won the 2016 Nobel Economics Prize for "their contributions to contract theory".
