Elkeson News
The Guangzhou Evergrande forward broke new ground for Chinese football earlier this month when he became the first player without Chinese heritage to be included in the country`s national squad when he was selected for September`s World Cup qualifiers.
The Asian Football Confederation announced Elkeson`s inclusion in China`s squad on its official website on Sunday, ending weeks of speculation that the 30-year-old had been granted citizenship and would be a member of Marcello Lippi`s selection for the upcoming qualifiers for Qatar 2022.
Second-half goals from Elkeson and Yang Liyu in the top-of-the-table clash earned Guangzhou the three points after Beijing`s Zhang Yuning had cancelled out Paulinho`s opener for the visitors.
The 29-year-old returns to the club where he won three Chinese Super League titles and two Asian Champions League crowns in a three-year spell from 2013 before signing for SIPG at the start of 2016, where he won the league title last season.
