Embraer is a Brazilian manufacturer that produces agricultural, commercial, military, and other kinds of aircraft and is now considering the possibility of setting up a manufacturing plant in India.

A recent report suggested that the Brazilian plane maker Embraer is pitching its C-390 Millennium cargo plane to the Indian Air Force for transport operations.   

A day after Brazilian aerospace conglomerate Embraer announced settlement with US and Brazilian authorities in the ongoing corruption investigation against it, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said decision here will be taken based on CBI investigation.

CBI has registered a case against NRI arms dealer Vipin Khanna and two companies based abroad in a case of alleged kickbacks worth over USD 5.70 million in connection with three aircraft deals with Embraer signed in 2008.

The company has been under investigation by the US Justice Department since 2010 when a contract with the Dominican Republic raised the Americans' suspicions.

Indian airlines are in talks with ATR, Bombardier and Embraer to buy smaller planes to fly to the country`s booming second and third tier cities ahead of a government drive to get more of the country connected by air.

Japan Airlines (JAL) on Thursday said it would order up to 59 regional jets from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Brazilian plan maker Embraer, as it retires some of its gas-guzzling domestic fleet.
