Exploration Mission-1 News
This mission, known as Exploration Mission-1 (EM-1) is a critical flight test for the agency's human deep space exploration goals.
The aircraft was designed during the Apollo programme and was used in the 1960s to carry parts of the Saturn V rocket from California to Florida.
It consists of the spacecraft’s main heat shield that faces into the atmosphere on re-entry to slow the spaceship down and also the grid of tiles known as the back shell.
