The personal data of over 1.5 billion individuals on a hacker forum has been discovered. It includes names, email addresses, localities, genders, phone numbers, and Facebook User ID information. The seller claimed that the company had been in business for four years and had served over 18,000 customers.

Earlier this week, Facebook Inc said: "malicious actors" had obtained data prior to September 2019 by "scraping" profiles using a vulnerability in the platform`s tool for syncing contacts. Social networks including Facebook and Twitter have been under fire over how they handle user privacy across their platforms. In 2019, Facebook reached a landmark settlement with the US Federal Trade Commission over its investigation into allegations the company misused user data.

Recently, more than 500 million people’s data was leaked and that initiated the debate of data privacy which is much needed for now. This also sparks a narrative on whether people should give their personal information on these social media websites or not.

As per a report, not only his phone number but other personal details like location, marriage details, birth date, and Facebook user ID was also leaked. This shocking development comes at a time when Facebook-owned WhatsApp is already facing backlash over its controversial privacy policies. Apart from Zuckerberg, Facebook's co-founders Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz were also among the affected users whose data was leaked in the Facebook breach.

Facebook’s collating of data came to light after the controversial Cambridge Analytica scandal and that raised serious questions on the company’s policies. Another Facebook feature that raises privacy concerns is its ‘off-Facebook activity-tracking feature’, which tracks users' app and website usage on their devices.

Facebook pulled or slapped warnings on nearly 30 million posts containing sexual or violent images, terrorist propaganda or hate speech during the first quarter.

Facebook was disrupted 21 times in the first half for the Indian users, it said.

Social networking giant Facebook received 6,324 requests from Indian government agencies for 8,290 users/accounts in the first half of 2016.
