People and businesses use Meta platforms to make payments in 160 countries and 55 currencies. Meta said it is investing further in messaging commerce and streamlining the overall checkout experience for customers.

Instagram will charge a selling fee for businesses to use its shopping feature. The ‘Shop' page will also give users personalised recommendations on things to buy within the app. The Shops tab would replace the current 'Activity' tab.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp is now no more restricted to just chatting or sharing images, videos but the App will now also provide a digital payment facility. Whatsapp on Monday (June 16, 2020) has digital payments to WhatsApp users in Brazil.

Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said earlier this year the company is planning to unify the messaging infrastructure across its platforms. He said the company would encrypt conversations on more of its messaging services and make them compatible as direct messaging was likely to dwarf discussion on the traditional, open platform of Facebook`s news feed in a few years.

Available on Android and desktop as of now, the group payments is live in the US since Tuesday.
