Sant Baba Ram Singh, who was supporting farmers protest, has committed suicide by shooting himself. Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that Baba committed suicide in support of farmers.

This is more or less the annual average for the past 10 years though there are periodic increases in the monthly figures of suicides, owing to certain specific conditions that may prevail, according to Vasantrao Naik Sheti Swavalamban Mission (VNSSM) President Kishore Tiwari.

According to the KVK data, agriculture income from this watershed area was Rs 27 crore in 2012-13 when rainfall was just 29 per cent of the annual average. In 2015-16, the income rose to Rs 42 crore when rainfall was 60 per cent. Before the watershed project, the average yearly income in the villages was Rs 77 lakh. 

In Dhamna village of Narsinghpur district, 65-year-old farmer Laxmi Gumasta allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at his home this morning, the police said.  

Bollywood personalities Nana Patekar, Makarand Anaspure, Akshay Kumar and others have also extended different types of help to distressed farmers in the state.
