About 27 people have died in floods triggered by heavy rains in South India, which have caused rivers to overflow. It is expected that the loss of life and property may increase as few people are still missing. The decision has been taken to open the Idukki dam after heavy rains.

Kerala has been receiving massive rainfall over the past few weeks. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kerala received an excess of 30.7% more rainfall than expected between June 1 and August 15.
