French Defence Minister Florence Parly will be on an official visit to India on Dec 17 to strengthen Indo-French strategic and defence ties. Florence Parly will call on PM Modi and hold an Annual Defence Dialogue with her Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh.

It will be Parly's fourth visit to India since 2017. She had visited India in September last year primarily to attend a ceremony in Ambala that was held to induct the first batch of five Rafale jets into the Indian Air Force.

Parly will be accompanied by sizeable defence officials and a defence industry delegation on a special plane and will have a full day of engagements. This will be the first foreign visit of the French Minister after the COVID measures were put in place in France.

Defence sources told ANI that the induction ceremony would be held after the return of the Defence Minister from Russia where he is scheduled to attend the meeting of the Defence Ministers of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation from September 4 to 6.

France has condoled the death of 2o Indian soldiers in the Galwan Valley face-off with China recently and extended full support to India. French Defence Minister Florence Parly had written to her Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh, condoling the death of twenty Indian soldiers in the Galwan Valley face-off.

The ceremony to hand over the Rafale jet will take place at a facility of Dassault Aviation, the makers of the aircraft, in Merignac of Bordeaux.
