The new law permits relatives to send up to Rs 10 lakh without telling the government. If the sum is exceeded, individuals will have three months instead of 30 days to notify the government. The government has replaced the words "fifteen days" with "forty-five days"

On November 5, the CBI had registered a case. It was alleged that the provision of the FCRA and Indian Penal Code (IPC) were contravened by the organisation by receiving foreign contributions from Amnesty International UK, even though prior registration or permissions were denied to the Amnesty International India Foundation Trust (AIIFT) and other Trusts under FCRA. 

Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju did not mention the names of NGOs whose registration was cancelled in 2017.

IIT Delhi has issued clarification over the reports about non-submission of annual statement of returns on FCRA ( Foreign Contribution Regulation Act).

As per FCRA, if an NGO is put under prior permission category, it is barred to receive foreign funding from abroad without taking permission from the Home Ministry.

The minister also said a number of NGOs, registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), 2010, with invalid bank accounts were asked to validate the same.

Over 1,000 NGOs have been barred for misutilising foreign funds and 2,000 asked to validate their existing FCRA designated bank accounts, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

As many as 5,922 NGOs can lose their licence to receive foreign donations.

In a circular, the ministry said all NGOs which were registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) should receive donations from abroad in a single designated bank account.
