Gambia cough syrup deaths News
Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) Dr V G Somani said a statement issued by WHO in October in the wake of the deaths "was unfortunately amplified by the global media which led to a narrative being built internationally targeting the quality of Indian pharmaceutical products".
Rutendo Kuwana from the WHO on October 13 had written to the DCGI seeking to know the progress with the investigation of the manufacturer of the four cough syrups -- the Sonipat-based Maiden Pharmaceuticals.
Gambia child death case: The World Health Organisation has issued alerts of India-made Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited cough syrup "potentially linked with acute kidney injuries and 66 children`s death".

The committee will examine and analyse adverse event reports, causal relationships and all related details shared by WHO
It will suitably advise and recommend to the DCGI about the further course of action
