High-speed internet service in J-K has been suspended since August last year when the Centre announced the revocation of its special status and bifurcation of the state into two UTs -- Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu was on Thursday appointed as the new Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).
He replaced Rajiv Mehrishi, a 1978 batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, as the CAG.
Murmu had resigned on August 5 from his post as Lieutenant Governor of the union territory.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on a two-day visit to Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, will on Saturday (July 18) visit Amarnath temple. His visit to the Amarnath temple comes at a time when the Indian Army has announced that terrorists were trying to target the pilgrimage at National Highway 44.
The 42-day-long yatra to the 3,880-metre high cave shrine of Amarnath in the south Kashmir Himalayas is scheduled to commence on June 23. The 10-day-long Buda Amarnath yatra in Poonch district of Jammu commences in August.
Newly-appointed Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chandra Murmu is on the target of Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), a report of secret intelligence agencies said. According to the report, a meeting was held between terrorist groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen and Pakistan's ISI in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir's Kotli area where ISI ordered the terror groups to carry out attacks on Governor Murmu.
