Dortmund's young and talented team of coach Edin Terzic claimed their first Cup title since 2017 in their 10th final to somewhat salvage a season that saw them fail to challenge Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title.

By notching up two goals, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting set up a 3-0 win over amateurs Dueren in the German Cup first round on Thursday. Coach Hansi Flick rotated his squad heavily for the tie and all Bayern`s recent transfers -- including Douglas Costa, Choupo-Moting and Marc Roca -- made the starting line-up. Bayern travel to Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga on Saturday and host Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in the first group match of their Champions League defence.

The German Cup, on the other hand, will begin on September 30, 2020.  

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich kept their hopes of a treble alive after beating Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Saturday to win the German Cup for the 20th time.

Lewandowski sealed the win with a fine run and superb finish in the 85th minute.

Dortmund have been eliminated from the German Cup lost to Tottenham Hotspur in their Champions League last 16 tie, making it five games in all competitions without a win.

Bayern, who face Liverpool in the Champions League last 16 this month and are in German Cup action next week, have 42 points with Dortmund, who drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt, on 49.
