Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election is battle of prestige for BJP, TRS The polls assume significance as 24 assembly segments fall under the GHMC limits. In the last GHMC elections in 2016, the ruling TRS had swept the election as it won 99 of the 150 wards. The municipal elections are also crucial for the BJP as it has set itself the target of expanding its footprint in the state

The voting for GHMC polls started on Tuesday at 7 AM. Elaborate arrangements have been made to conduct the poll in a free and fair manner. More than 74 lakh voters will exercise their franchise to decide the political fate of 1,122 candidates.

Asaduddin is the Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad, while his brother is the MLA from Chandrayangutta in Hyderabad. 

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has been booked for allegedly attacking the Congress workers during the GHMC polls yesterday after which the police had to resort to mild lathi-charge to disperse them.

Tension prevailed in the Mirchowk area here on Tuesday as MIM and Congress workers clashed during the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls and the police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse them. 

Activists of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and Congress clashed during the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election today.

The polling ended at 5 p.m. but those standing in the queues were allowed to cast their votes.

Polling for the GHMC elections began under unprecedented security on Tuesday morning. The GHMC elections have seen witnessed a high-voltage campaign from the ruling TRS, opposition Congress, TDP-BJP combine and the MIM candidates.

Stating that Hyderabad is for Hyderabadis, MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday called upon people to reject outsiders in the ensuing elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
