Girish Chandra Murmu who was previously appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir stepped down from the post on Thursday.
He replaces Rajiv Mehrishi, who is scheduled to complete his term this week, as new CAG.
Murmu was appointed as the first Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir last year.
The 61-year-old is known for his massive connect with the people of rural areas. He comes in place of former IAS officer Girish Chandra Murmu who hurriedly tendered his resignation on Wednesday night.
Girish Chandra Murmu was the first Lt Governor of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He was appointed in October 2019.
According to sources, Murmu has been appointed as the new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday expelled its Rajya Sabha MP Nazir Ahmad Laway for attending the swearing-in ceremony of newly-appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chandra Murmu.

Murmu is the first lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir. He is a 1985 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Gujarat cadre and was the principal secretary to Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister.
