Google`s computer programme AlphaGo beat the world`s top-ranked player in the ancient Chinese board game Go on Tuesday, re-affirming the arrival of what its developers tout as a ground-breaking new form of artificial intelligence.

AlphaGo had already clinched a series victory with its third win on Saturday, in a result that shocked the world, particularly Go fans.

DeepMind, Google's taciturn artificial intelligence arm, claimed that its programme AlphaGo defeated Fan Hui - the current champion of the game that was developed in China 2,500 years ago.
