The flood flow is expected to further decline as the water level at upstream Bhadrachalam fell by over six feet on Tuesday after touching a high of 61 feet on Monday. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who reviewed the situation, directed the Collectors of the two districts to immediately distribute Rs 2,000 each to the flood-hit families. Full-scale enumeration of the damage would be undertaken after the flood recedes.

Minister for Municipal administration KT Rama Rao and Minister for Health Eatala Rajender flew to Warangal from Hyderabad in a helicopter and conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas. Water level came down in the Godavari river at Bhadrachalam providing some relief to people in the inundated areas. The water level, which had crossed 60 feet on Monday, receded to 54.4 feet on Tuesday. Heavy rains during the last five days have led to a flood-like situation in some parts of the state. Rivulets, streams and lakes were overflowing in several districts, cutting-off interior villages.

The petition was filed by former lawmaker GV Harsha Kumar in the wake of a tragic boat accident in the Godavari River on September 15, last month, in which over 28 persons died and a score went missing.

Out of 73 passengers, 26 passengers were rescued while 34 bodies have been retrieved so far. Remaining 13 persons are yet to be traced out.
