According to data from the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 24-carat gold climbed to Rs 98,243 per 10 grams, up from Rs 97,511 a week ago -- an increase of Rs 732. The price of 22-carat gold also moved up from Rs 89,320 to Rs 89,991 per 10 grams.
Gold prices have been driven up by the safe haven demand by investors in the wake of uncertainty caused by rising geopolitical tensions.
The rise in gold price is being attributed to US President Donald Trump and Iran government threatening retaliatory strikes following the killing of Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani in Iraq in an American drone strike. Gold price has jumped by almost Rs 1,800 in the last couple of days
Globally, gold in New York, which normally sets price trend on the domestic front, rose 1.7 per cent this week.
