The 2020 American drama film Nomadland took home big awards at the Golden Globes 2021. Directed, written and edited by Chloé Zhao, the film blew the critics away with its unconventional story and breathtaking cinematography. The film, starring Frances McDormand, David Strathairn, Linda May and Swankie, is based on the 2017 non-fiction book Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century by Jessica Bruder. The director Chloé Zhao won the Best Director award for her film and became the first Asian woman to win the award in 78-years of the Golden Globes’ history. The critically acclaimed film also won the  Best Motion Picture, Drama at the international award show.

The Crown season 4 has emerged as a big winner at this year's Golden Globes awards. The awards were held on Monday (March 1, India time). The 78th Golden Globe Awards, the HFPA`s first-ever bicoastal and virtual show, was hosted by the dynamic duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Fey emceed live from the Rockefeller Center`s Rainbow Room in New York City, while Poehler hosted from the Globes` usual location inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

The George C Wolfe directorial marked Boseman's final film role. Viola Davis was one of the co-stars of Boseman in this film. Chadwick Boseman's wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, accepted the award and said, "He would thank god. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices."

Variety calculated that a record 30% of the acting nominees in the film categories were nonwhite.

The Golden Globes have usually been held on the first Sunday of the calendar year as a kick-off to the Hollywood awards season.
