The mediaeval Church of the Holy Saviour in Chora, built near the ancient city walls of Constantinople, contains 14th century Byzantine mosaics and frescoes showing scenes from biblical stories.
Like Hagia Sophia - the building was converted to a museum by Turkey`s secular republic more than 70 years ago.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan reconverted the historic Chora church, one of Istanbul`s most celebrated Byzantine buildings, into a mosque on Friday.
This comes a month after opening the famed Hagia Sophia to Muslim worship.

"It is regrettable that the Turkish decision was not the subject of dialogue nor notification beforehand," the United Nation`s cultural body said in a statement.
President Tayyip Erdogan, whose ruling AK Party sprung from political Islam, has said the cavernous domed building should revert to being a place of Muslim worship.
Erdogan made his announcement just an hour after the court ruling was revealed, brushing aside international warnings not to change the status of the nearly 1,500-year-old monument that is revered by Christians and Muslims alike.
