High pulses prices News
Trying out all possible ways to control pulse prices that have neared Rs 200 per kg, the Centre today decided to set up a committee to relook at the minimum support price and bonus to promote pulse cultivation.
Worried about a further spike in prices of pulses in coming months, the Centre today asked state governments not to levy local taxes like VAT and mandi fees on dals, besides taking stern action against hoarders to boost supply and bring down rates.
Sending stern signals to pulses hoarders and blackmarketeers, government has seized 5,800 tons of pulses from five different states over the last few month, said Consumer Affairs Secretary on Tuesday.
High pulses prices are expected to continue in the days to come as slow imports are not able to keep up with the demand in the festival season.
