The government decision taken last week to make Hindi compulsory as a third language for students of Classes 1 to 5 in Marathi and English-medium schools in the state had met with stiff resistance from different quarters, including some opposition parties.

The ruling DMK has been alleging Hindi imposition by the Centre through the 3-language formula as part of the NEP, a charge denied by the union government. 

In a copy of the invitation for the all-party meeting shared on his 'X' page, Stalin highlighted several challenges facing the state, including central fund allocation and the potential reduction of Lok Sabha seats.

Thangavel (85),  a senior DMK cadre on Saturday died of self-immolation near the party office in Thazhaiyur near Mettur in nearby Salem District.
