Certain gut bacteria, including one required for a healthy gut microbiome, differ between people who develop HIV infection and those who do not, according to new UCLA-led research.
The findings, published in the peer-reviewed journal eBioMedicine, suggest that the gut microbiome may influence one`s risk of HIV infection.
The setback came as the WHO also reported more than 200,000 new cases globally of the disease for the first time in a single day. The United States accounted for 53,213 of the total 212,326 new cases recorded on Friday, the WHO said.
New HIV drug is a promising strategy for patients who have run out of effective treatment options, the researchers at Yale University said.
