India had inked an agreement with Airbus for supply of 56 C-295 military transport aircraft in September 2021.

In September 2021, Cabinet Committee on Security approved the procurement of 56 C-295MW transport aircraft from Airbus Defence, 40 of which will be made by Tata Group in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of a manufacturing facility for C-295 transport aircraft in Vadodara in Gujarat, to be manufactured by Tata-Airbus consortium boosting India's 'Make-in-India' initiative, especially in the defence industry. 

Based on a modified IL 76 airframe, the IL 78 MKI is an Indian Air Force aerial refuelling platform capable of refuelling multiple aircraft simultaneously and increasing their flying ranges, playing an important role in improving the strategic reach of IAF.
