The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Friday said that children were not targets and appealed to all parties involved in the conflict in Syria to protect children and their families at all costs.

Air strikes on a popular market and residential neighbourhoods killed at least 32 people and wounded dozens on Monday in an attack on one of the main opposition-held cities in northwestern Syria, rescuers and residents said.

Syrian government forces pounded positions in the northwest of the country on Sunday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, in the heaviest day of air strikes since launching a major campaign against the rebel-held territory nearly four weeks ago. 

Russia has helped forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad take back most of the country in the eight-year-old war but fighting continues.

She argued back when the al-Qaida militants sent in an inspector to warn her against playing music during the graduation ceremony at the higher education institute that she founded in Idlib province. 

The attack occurred in a market in the town of al-Dana, located in the north of the province near the border with Turkey, according to the Observatory.

Hundreds of rebels and their families were evacuated this week from the adjacent Barzeh district after rebels there decided to lay down their arms.

"They have some staff, up to 15 I guess, who have started working in our premises here," the official said. 

The Kremlin on Thursday said US allegations that Syrian forces carried out a deadly chemical attack are not based on "objective" information.

At least 14 children were among 20 people killed in an air strike in Syria`s northwestern Idlib province at dawn on Wednesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.

Air strikes on a rebel-held town in northwestern Syria killed eight people on Saturday, a monitor said, the latest to hit the area where Al-Qaeda`s former affiliate has a strong presence.

The Syrian government air strikes killed at least six civilians, including four children, in Aleppo province on Thursday, despite a fragile two-week-old truce, a monitor said.

An agreement for the imminent evacuation of civilians from east Aleppo in Syria has been reached.

The deadly war in Syria has killed more than 300,000 people since it started in March 2011 with a wave of anti-government protests.

The helicopter came down near the town of Saraqeb, in Idlib province, roughly midway between Aleppo and the Russian Air Force base at Khmeimim, near the Mediterranean coast.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also said that the hospital in the rebel-held town of Kafar Takharim was heavily damaged.

Air strikes on a camp for displaced people in Syria's Idlib province were almost certainly not accidental and likely amounted to a war crime, the UN rights chief said on Friday.
