IMD warning News

Election Commission of India on Thursday convened with IMD amid reports of rising temperature in several parts of the country ahead of second phase of Lok Sabha Elections.

IMD has issued a rainfall warning for several states and UTs. It has also predicted a fall in minimum temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and MP. The Met dept has said dense fog in night and morning hours is very likely over Uttar Pradesh.

"Isolated places in the districts of Jabalpur in eastern Madhya Pradesh received rainfall in the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Saturday," a senior meteorologist with IMD's Bhopal office said.

The IMD has issued an advisory in view of the Cyclone Fani.

 Coast Guard has put its formations on high alert and its Dornier aircraft and ships have been deployed off Kerala, Lakshadweep and Minicoy islands, and south Tamil Nadu seas.

 Four shutters of Malampuzha dam have been opened by 9 cm each.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also announced that the IMD had issued a warning about a low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea close to Sri Lankan coast.

On Wednesday, heavy rains are likely in Goa, Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Several states and regions of the country will witness thunderstorms accompanied with squall (wind speed reaching 50¬70 kmph) and hail today (May 9). The states and regions where such weather conditions will develop are Bihar, Sub¬Himalayan West Bengal, Gangetic West Bengal, Sikkim and Jharkhand in the eastern part of India.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an all-India weather warning predicting heat wave conditions in some parts of the country and thunderstorms and windy conditions in other parts over the coming four days.
