Ahead of India’s next game of 2023 Asian Champions Trophy in Chennai against Pakistan, take a look at all the key details related to the match.

A historic bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics bringing them back among the international elite, India men's hockey team will seek their first podium finish in 48 years in the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup 2023 as they begin their campaign against Spain on Friday (January 13). Vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh (11th, 35th, 53rd) scored a hat-trick, while Abhishek (2nd minute), Shamsher Singh (14th), Akashdeep Singh (20th), Jugraj Singh (22nd, 43rd), Nilakanta Sharma (38th), Varun Kumar (39th) and Mandeep Singh (48th) were the other goal getters for India.

India’s top-five finish not a given this time. While India remains far from becoming a sporting superpower, the CWG have been a happy hunting ground for the largest nation in the Commonwealth. 

This was India’s second win of day over the same opponents. India had beaten Poland, who had finished second with two wins and as many losses, 6-2 in their round-robin league match three and half hours earlier in the day.

The Punjab government on Thursday (August 5, 2021) announced that it will give a cash award of ₹ 1 crore to each state hockey player. Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi made the announcement after India beat Germany 5-4 in the bronze play-off.
