President Trump revealed a deal for the US to help Pakistan develop "massive" oil reserves, hinting at future sales to India.
Iran is India's third-largest oil supplier behind Iraq and Saudi Arabia. It supplied 18.4 million tonnes of crude oil during April 2017 and January 2018.
India is the world`s third-largest crude importer, buying 80 percent of its supplies from overseas.
The jump came with an end-of-the-year boost as imports in December surged 84 percent from a year ago to 348,400 barrels per day (bpd), the highest since March.
India imported about 38 percent more oil from Iran in the eleven months to November as an easing of Western sanctions earlier in the year over Tehran`s disputed nuclear activities helped boost shipments, trade sources said.
