At a separate meeting on issues relating to the United Nations, Russia reiterated its support for India as a permanent member of a reformed UN Security Council.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited the Russian President to visit India when the two leaders held summit talks in Moscow in July.
Addressing the Ukraine conflict, PM Modi reiterated India's stance on peace, stating, "I have been in constant touch with you on the subject of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine."
PM Modi will attend the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, on October 22-23, where he may meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

And since the Prime Minister's visit, 35 Indian nationals have been discharged. Prior to July, his visit, 10 Indian nationals had been discharged. So 45 Indian nationals have been discharged so far."

"We see prospective of making Security Council more democratic via representation of countries from Africa, Asia & Latin America. India and Brazil, in particular, are key international actors and should be counted for permanent membership in the council," said Sergey Lavrov.
