India sugar production News
The sugar output in the ongoing 2018-19 marketing year (October-September) is pegged at 33 million tonnes, lower than 34.3 million tonnes achieved in the previous year.
On the corresponding date last year, 258.20 lakh tons had been produced with 399 mills operating as on 15th March 2018, the industry data said.
The clarification came after some reports indicated that large quantities of sugar had been imported from Pakistan.
India will soon scrap an order that requires sugar mills to export excess supply, two government officials said on Monday, after back-to-back droughts look set to turn the country into a net importer next season and open the door to rival suppliers.
