India-US 2+2 dialogue News

During his stay in the US till April 15, Singh will hold talks with the US leadership on ways to deepen the India-US strategic partnership. The Defence Minister will also meet his US counterpart Lloyd J Austin III at the Pentagon on Monday.
Rajnath Singh arrived in Washington as part of his five-day US visit which includes the India-US 2+2 ministerial dialogue.
Singh will be in the US from April 10 to April 15 to hold talks with US leadership on ways to deepen the India-US strategic partnership.
India and US announced that they will hold their next 2+2 dialogue on Sunday.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J Austin III will welcome Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in an enhanced honour cordon ceremony at the Pentagon.
US also stated that the dialogue will also be a chance to highlight the growing major defence partnership between the US and India.
During the meeting, a military pact, BECA or Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement is also expected to be signed.
Both sides, "exchanged views on current global situation and its contemporary challenges and discussed our shared concerns and interests including stability and security in Asia, and how best that can be ensured"
This is the second meeting between the two ministers in a months' time
Earlier this month, both had an in-person meeting also on the sidelines of the QUAD
Welcoming his US counterpart, Rajnath Singh said "India is delighted to host US Secretary of Defence, Dr Mark Esper"
"Our talks today were fruitful, aimed at further deepening defence cooperation in a wide range of areas"
"Today’s discussions will add new vigour to our defence relations and mutual cooperation," he added
The External Affairs Minister said, "Our counter-terrorism efforts were also discussed at today`s meeting and these have been boosted by growing consensus on the nature of terror threats in the region and dangers of cross-border terrorism and sanctuaries."
During the 2+2 dialogue, US also agreed to exert more pressure on Pakistan to rein in various terror outfits operating from its soil.
At the first 2+2 dialogue, both India and the US asked Pakistan to do more to contain terror operating from its soil.
Swaraj and Sitharaman will hold the twice-postponed dialogue with Pompeo and Mattis
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defence James Mattis will arrive in New Delhi on September 5.
