India vs Bangladesh 1st ODI news
Rahul top-scored for India with 73 off 70 balls even as the rest of the batters crumbled around him for the visitors to be bowled out for 186 in 41.2 overs. Coming in at number five, he looked way more fluent than his teammates on a tricky pitch with variable bounce and turn for spinners.
India captain Rohit Sharma pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Michael Gough and Tanvir Ahmed, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel levelled the charge.
With the hosts' looking down and out, the result seemed a foregone conclusion. But Mehidy had other ideas -- slicing short balls from debutant Kuldeep Sen over the third man for a brace of sixes in the 41st over.
Along side Shakib, Ebadot was superb in his short balls to pick 4/47 in 8.2 overs. For India, KL Rahul made a fine 73 off 70 balls, but did not get any support from rest of the batters, who were caught in playing either inside or outside the line as the visitors fell to their second lowest ODI total against Bangladesh.
Interestingly, both India and Bangladesh haven't picked a specialist wrist-spinner for the upcoming ODI series.
The ODIs against Bangladesh will also mark the re-uniting of Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli as the top three.
