India currently has 49 satellites serving various applications in Earth’s orbit and four more are ready for launch in 2020. In the year 2019-2020, ISRO built 12 satellites of which eight have been launched and four are ready for launch. It is to be noted that ISRO hasn’t had any launches this year, owing to the coronavirus pandemic and related challenges.

Indian communication satellite GSAT-6A would become a space debris if the Indian space agency does not reestablish communication link with it, said experts.

The move by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) comes after the non-separation of the heat shield of the PSLV-XL rocket that was launched on Aug 31, 2017, resulting in failure of the mission.

As of April 1, 2017, a total of 192 Indian objects are orbiting in space, catalogued by US Space Surveillance Network, said a retired Indian scientist.  

The PSLV is an expendable launch system developed and operated by the ISRO.

The 1.4-tonne satellite will be launched from the state-run Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) spaceport at Sriharikota off the Bay of Bengal in Andhra Pradesh, about 80 km northeast of Chennai.

The phrase signals that the atomic clocks -- that provide locational data -- in the six navigation satellites are functioning normally. 

This heavy lift rocket is capable of placing up to 8 tons in a low Earth orbit, enough to carry India's crew module.

The notable aspect of this rocket is that the main and bigger cryogenic engine has been developed by space scientists here and will be powering the rocket for the first time.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday felicitated the engineers and scientists of ISRO on the successful launch of the South Asia Satellite and said it will open up new avenues of cooperation.

The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket blasted off from Sriharikota rocket port in Andhra Pradesh at sharp 9.28 am today.

When the vehicle reaches the orbital condition, there will be a pause for sometime till the disturbances die down which will be followed by the preparation for separation.

According to ISRO, the mission is scheduled to lift off at 9.28 hours IST from SDSC SHAR Sriharikota, on Wednesday, February 15, 2017.

Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet South Asian satellite project will take off in March.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch INSAT-3DR next month with its GSLV rocket, said Kiran Kumar at the Madras Institute of Technology Alumni Association meeting here.
