In a big setback to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected its plea seeking the review of earlier order granting bail to the former finance minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram in the INX Media alleged corruption case. 

In a fresh trouble for former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday (June 2) filed chargesheet against him in INX Media money laundering case case. The case is about alleged irregularities in granting FIPB clearance worth Rs 305 crore to INX Media when Chidambaram was the union finance minister.

Karti Chidambaram, along with his father and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, are currently out on anticipatory bail in the Aircel Maxis case.

The Supreme Court will on Wednesday deliver the verdict on Congress leader P Chidambaram`s bail plea in the INX Media money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate.

They were granted bail on an amount of Rs two lakh each and a surety of the same amount. The court has also sought the response of CBI on their regular bail applications and has put the matter for December 17. The bureaucrats had applied for bail earlier in the day. 

Chidambaram was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 16 and subsequently sent to judicial custody by the court in Tihar jail till November 27.

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and his sister and party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will visit former Chidambaram on Wednesday morning, party leaders said. According to a senior party leader, Rahul and Priyanka will visit Chidambaram at around 9 am.

Chidambaram's bail plea was posted for Wednesday as Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the ED, is busy in arguments of another case before a different bench. 

A three-judge SC bench led by Justice R Banumathi and comprising Justices A.S. Bopanna and Hrishikesh Roy, had issued the notice ED on Chidambaram's plea challenging the Delhi High Court verdict rejecting his bail petition.

The Delhi High Court had on November 15 dismissed Chidambaram's bail plea in the case filed by the ED.

The Supreme Court will hear the bail plea of ​former union minister ​P Chidambaram in the INX Media money laundering case on Wednesday (November 20). Chidambaram's lawyer Kapil Sibal had sought an early hearing on the bail plea as the senior Congress leader is in the jail for the last 90 days. A 3-judge bench headed by Justice R Bhanumathi will hear the bail plea. 

The court was informed that the investigation has revealed that several payments were made as several invoices have been recovered.

On Wednesday (November 13), a Special court at Rouse Avenue Court Complex in Delhi had extended the judicial custody of former Union finance minister in INX Media case till November 27.
