Mumbai Indians had to win by 171 runs to displace KKR from the fourth spot in the points table and qualify for the playoffs but Jason Roy gave SRH a firing start and denied the Rohit Sharma-led side the chance.

In the last over, RCB, who were chasing 165, needed 16 for a win. However, the Virat Kohli-led side could only accumulate 11 runs from the five deliveries and they needed five runs from the last ball. This is when Bharat did the unthinkable and smashed a six off Avesh Khan’s delivery to take RCB over the finishing line.

Ishan Kishan played a knock of 50 runs off 25 balls and smashed five fours and three sixes as MI chased the paltry 91-run target within nine overs. Earlier, Nathan Coulter-Nile picked four wickets as Mumbai Indians restricted Rajasthan Royals to 90/9.

Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals are sitting at 10 points from 12 games with only the difference of the net run rate. The two sides are going to fight it out to take one step closer to standing a chance for a fourth-place finish.

CSK skipper Dhoni found accelerating the run-rate difficult against Delhi Capitals and could only score 18 off 27 deliveries that too without scoring any boundary. Meanwhile, former India opener Virender Sehwag took a dig at Dhoni for his dull batting and said that he wanted to go off to sleep while the CSK captain was in the middle.

Delhi Capitals all-rounder Ripal Patel, who made his IPL debut against the Chennai Super Kings, was thrilled about the fact that MS Dhoni saw him bat from behind the stumps. He even had a chat session with the CSK skipper after the match on Monday.

Despite CSK scoring 136 in the allotted 20 overs, the match went down the wire both teams fighting hard for the win in the last over. However, Delhi Capitals hunted down the target with two balls to spare and now sit on top of the points table.

The fight for the fourth and final spot in the IPL 2021 has heated up after 49 matches in the season as Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals are still in contention to book the remaining playoff berth, while Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore have already sealed their places for the knockout round of the tournament.  

Punjab Kings has managed to win just 14 of the 25 games played under Rahul's leadership so far. The team has finished sixth in the league stages in the last two IPL editions. Also, they are almost out of the playoff fight in IPL 2021. They are currently placed fifth in the tally with 10 points.

Punjab Kings defeated KKR by five wickets in a thrilling encounter on Friday.

RCB restricted Rajasthan Royals to 149/9 and then chased down the target with 17 balls left after Maxwell (50*) and Bharat (44) show. With this win, RCB now has 14 points in 11 games.

The 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) is set to make a comeback after it was halted midway due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The league will now resume on September 19 in UAE with Chennai Super Kings taking on Mumbai Indians.
