The suit, filed on behalf of Jain deity Tirthankar Lord Rishabh Dev and Hindu deity Lord Vishnu (through their next friends), seeks restoration of the alleged temple complex, comprising as many as 27 temples.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) spokesman Vinod Bansal has claimed that Delhi’s famous monument Qutub Minar was actually ‘Vishnu Stambh’. Bansal said that the monument was built with materials obtained after demolishing 27 Hindu-Jain temples.
The Bombay HC on Tuesday allowed two Jain temples to reopen with conditions of limited entry during Diwali.
The court also directed that devotees should follow COVID-19 safety protocols during Diwali.
The two Jain temples are owned by trusts at Dadar and Byculla.
The Supreme Court on Friday allowed devotees to offer Paryushana prayers in three Jain temples in Mumbai, following guidelines, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The apex court permitted devotees to visit Jain temples at Dadar, Byculla and Chembur on the last two days of Paryushana on August 22 and 23.
The apex court said that the Centre`s SOP on opening religious places should be followed.
