Delhi HC on Tuesday charged Sharjeel Imam, Safoora Zargar and seven other accused under sections related to rioting, unlawful assembly, obstructing the public servant, damaging Properties and other sections.

The chargesheet was filed before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gurmohina Kaur, who sent Imam to judicial custody till March 3 after he was produced in the court on expiry of his custodial interrogation on Tuesday.

Delhi Police has filed a charge sheet in the violence on December 15 at Jamia Millia Islamia University. Police have named the name of JNU student Sharjeel Imam in the charge sheet as "provocative". The police filed the charge sheet on 13 February.

Sharjeel Imam, former JNU student, who had been arrested by the Delhi Police earlier, has been named as the instigator behind the violence in Jamia Nagar and New Friends Colony on December 15 last year.
