Neeraj won a magnificent Gold at 2020 Tokyo Olympics and then later won silver medal at Paris Olympics. India lost the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds by five wickets. Bumrah's fifer helped him break the record for most five-wicket hauls by an Indian bowler in England in Test cricket.

Currently, Bumrah is working on his fitness at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, and is likely to miss the first three games for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025. 

 He was named in India’s provisional squad for the ICC showpiece, but could not attain the optimum fitness level in time, as mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy was drafted into the side.

Bumrah has been missing from on-field action since January. His last appearance was in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Sydney.

Following the advice from the medical experts, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided the Indian spearhead should rest for at least five weeks (the Sydney Test finished on January 5) after which he will undergo another scan.

In 17 matches, Pandya scored 352 runs and claimed 16 wickets, finishing as the top-ranked ICC Men’s T20I all-rounder.

Team India will play against Bangladesh on February 20, Pakistan on February 23, and New Zealand on March 2 in group-stage fixtures.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who climbed a spot to be joint-ninth, is the other Indian giving Bumrah company in the top-10.

Under the leadership of Bumrah, the Indian team won the first Test at Perth. He bowled brilliantly and restricted the Kangaroos to 150 in the first innings. When Rohit Sharma decided to drop himself from the final Test, it was Bumrah who led the Indian team against Australia.

Unfortunately, Bumrah could not bowl in Australia’s second innings at Sydney because of a back spasm. His standout spells included nine wickets in both the Brisbane and Melbourne Tests, which played a pivotal role in keeping India in competition.

While chasing 162 runs, the host nation showed aggressive cricket as they finished the chase in just 27 overs.

As of now, Bumrah has taken 32 wickets from five matches at an average of 13.06 in the ongoing series.

Talking about the game, Australia was bowled out to just 181 runs in the fifth and final Test against India in Sydney on Saturday. The likes of Siraj and Prasidh Krishna starred with the ball as the duo scalped three wickets each.

While the Indian team celebrated with jubilation, Prasidh Krishna was seen staring back at Konstas. KL Rahul and Washington Sundar were among those who stayed calm as the day ended on a spicy note.

Just before the end of day 1 play, the likes of Bumrah and Konstas were spotted having a verbal spat at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Two balls later, Bumrah dismissed Khawaja for 3 in the final over of the day.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Cummins said Bumrah is bowling well at the moment. The skipper also hoped that Bumrah would be out of fuel when he comes out to bat at the Sydney Test. The Aussie all-rounder added that the India pacer always poses a challenge.

Albanese, who hosted the Indian and Australian players here on Wednesday ahead of the decisive fifth Test, spoke glowingly of Bumrah. 

The 907 ranking points also placed Bumrah as joint-17th in the all-time list with Derek Underwood of England. Ahead of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne last week, Bumrah had equalled the record (904) held by Ashwin in the ranking for bowlers.

Bumrah had a great 2024 as he ended the year as the leading wicket-taker in Test format with 71 wickets from 13 matches at an average of 14.92 with the help of 5 five-wicket hauls.

The Indian team has an impeccable record as they have not lost their last three Tests since 2014 at the MCG.
