J&K Assembly Election News

On Tuesday, the National Conference-Congress alliance secured victory in the Jammu and Kashmir elections, the first assembly polls in ten years, defying exit polls that had anticipated a hung assembly. The BJP came in second, winning 29 constituencies, surpassing its previous record of 25 seats from the 2014 elections. The Congress managed to claim six seats.  

Traditional markets in Srinagar, such as Maharaja Bazar, Bohri Kadal, Habba Kadal, and Koker Bazar, are experiencing a significant boost in garland sales as political party workers rush to buy colorful garlands to welcome their leaders at party offices and campaign sites.  

Around 39.18 lakh electors are eligible to vote across 40 assembly constituencies, with 415 candidates in the fray. 

After walking out of Delhi's Tihar Jail, Engineer Rashid lashed out at the Narendra Modi government and said "I vow to resist Modi's 'Naya Kashmir' narrative, which has clearly failed in J&K".
