J&K, Haryana Assembly Elections Polls LIVE: Ranjit Singh Chautala and seven others were expelled from the BJP for six years on Sunday after announcing their candidacy as independents in the upcoming October 5 Assembly elections. 

According to the EC, the tentative voter turnout for the 24 assembly seats spread over seven districts stood at 59 per cent. This figure may go up slightly as some of the polling stations are located in remote areas of the Pir Panjal Mountain range.

The upcoming J&K election is the first state assembly election in over a decade. The political landscape has shifted dramatically since the abrogation of Article 370 and the delimitation process in 2019, which redrew constituency boundaries and added more seats.
