Johnson & Johnson's single-dose COVID-19 vaccine has now got approval for Emergency Use Authorisation in India. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that India has 'expanded its vaccine basket'.

"On August 5, 2021 Johnson & Johnson Pvt Ltd applied for EUA of its single-dose COVID-19 vaccine to the government of India," a Johnson & Johnson India spokesperson said in a statement.

The country has so far administered 358.1 million vaccine doses giving at least one dose to 31% of its estimated adult population of 944 million. Many experts believe that the country needs to administer at least 10 million doses a day to achieve its aim of immunising all adults by December. India mainly relies on a licensed version of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
