Jokihat seat in minority muslims dominated Araria district of Bihar was held by JD(U) during the 2015 state elections.

RJD’s Sarfaraz Alam defeated Murshid Alam of the JDU by more than 40,000 votes in Jokihat Assembly constituency in Bihar.

After trailing in the initial round of counting, the Rashtriya Janata Dal established a comfortable lead after 24 rounds.

The Jokikhat seat fell vacant following the resignation of JD-U MLA Sarfaraz Alam, who joined the RJD.

After trailing in the initial round of counting, the opposition RJD has established a comfortable lead over the ruling JD-U in the bypolls to the Jokihat Assembly seat in Bihar on Thursday, according to Election Commission officials.

In a few hours from now, the results of Bihar's Jokihat and Jharkhand's Gomia and Silli Assembly bypoll constituencies will begin. The chief parties in the fray are Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress. 

Of the 10 assembly seats where by-polls were held last Thursday, the BJP scored just one in Uttarakhand's Tharali while the Congress won Punjab's Shahkot, Karnataka's RR Nagar and Meghalaya's Ampati that made it the single largest party in the northeastern state. 

While the opposition parties are alleging Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) hand in the EVM errors, the BJP has asked the Election Commission to extend the voting time to make up for the lost time.
